2016 Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar

Volvo had no problems selling out the 750-unit global run of high-performance S60 and V60 Polestar models it produced for 2015, and the company recently confirmed it is offering up a second, equally sized batch of the tuned sedans and wagons for 2016. At that point, though, Volvo hadn’t yet worked out how many of those 750 2016 S60 and V60 Polestars were destined for the U.S. Consider that mystery now solved.

Volvo confirms to Car and Driver that it is sending a whopping 274 S60 and V60 Polestars to our shores for 2016. That still isn’t very many, but it is a big increase over the 120 total examples from last year.

The initial U.S. run consisted of 40 S60 sedans and, awesomely, 80 V60 wagons. We’re told that the 2016 mix will be 40 percent sedans and 60 percent wagons, meaning buyers will be scrambling for 109 four-doors and 165 five-doors. There’s no mention of mechanical changes, so expect the same sweet 345-hp turbocharged inline-six, playful all-wheel drive system, and buttoned-down chassis that graced the 2015 versions. While this new influx reduces the rarity of the models overall, spotting them in the wild will remain an extremely unlikely event: Just 394 S60 and V60 Polestars will have found American homes when all is said and done.
