Does the backdrop in the photo above look familiar? That’s because it’s pretty much the same hip, New York SoHo location that played host to the “Dare Greatly” Cadillac ad that introduced the world to the 2016 CT6 luxury sedan. This time, it’s playing host to the all-new Cadillac XT5, the replacement for the SRX crossover, which an eagle-eyed OppositeLock contributor spotted completely uncovered during an on-location photo shoot—and snapped a few photos of for himself.
To our eyes, the XT5—expected to debut later this year and go on sale in early 2016 as a 2017 model—looks a lot like today’s SRX, albeit updated with a CT6-like face. The XT5’s profile appears to have been plucked straight from the SRX, but details like the boomerang-shaped taillights, plunging rear fender crease, and sportier backlight design keep things fresh. To be clear, this is an all-new car, not a re-skin of the SRX, which has been on sale since 2009.
Cadillac had no comment when we contacted its team for more information, which leaves open questions regarding the powertrain and chassis details. Still, the XT5 clearly remains a front-drive-based urban beast, albeit one that appears to have gained a few inches of wheelbase, and don’t be surprised to see it gets one of Caddy’s all-new, brand-exclusive V-6 engines. More details should emerge as time draws nearer to the XT5’s official reveal, but consider Cadillac’s transition to an all-new naming scheme in full swing.
