What, only five must-see debuts?
It may seem strange, to have such a brief list of cars worthy of being "must-sees" from an auto show as large as that in L.A. Of course, if we included all of the good stuff, this would hardly be a "must-see" list, only a "see!" Some may question how an ultra-hot Lamborghini, a 400-hp Lincoln, or even a fully race-prepped (and for sale!) Porsche failed to make the cut. As cool as those are, these five stand out as the most important cars that made their debut in Los Angeles. Slide right to see them all:
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia
Alfa's Giulia sport sedan isn't new—it already debuted earlier this year—but this its appearance in L.A. was accompanied by full U.S.-spec information. For the first time, the Giulia lineup's powertrains, features, and even some pricing became known—bringing the seductive Alfa that much closer to on-sale readiness. READ MORE >>
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia
Even though Alfa really, really likes talking about the high-po, 505-hp Giulia Quadrifoglio, it's the base four-cylinder model that'll likely lead sales. So it's nice to know that engine makes a still-healthy 276 horsepower. READ MORE >>
2017 Buick LaCrosse
We could beguile you with witty, exclamatory statements like "OMG, that's a Buick?" but don't worry, we don't need to. Buick has been on the upswing for some time now, and the 2017 LaCrosse is merely the newest and best-looking of the brand's cars. READ MORE >>
2017 Buick LaCrosse
Outside, is a handsome exterior; inside, the cabin is vastly improved over the old model's. With a simple, flowing design and much nicer materials, the Buick's innards are spoiled only by the oversize, BMW-style electronic shift lever. It is the only interior component seemingly still geared toward geriatric users (look at the size of an outgoing LaCrosse's dashboard buttons and you'll know what we're on about here). Otherwise, the Buick is lighter, sweeter, and we're looking forward to driving it. READ MORE >>
2017 Fiat 124 Spider
If you can't tell, we really, really, really like the new Mazda MX-5 Miata. So much so, in fact, that we gave it a 10Best award for 2016. So anything Miata is of utmost importance, and the Fiat 124 Spider certainly falls under that banner. That's because beneath its retro-modern skin—it apes the original 124 Spider—it's a new Miata. 2017 Fiat 124 Spider
Okay, so it isn't an exact Miata clone, mostly thanks to its more-powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Borrowed from Fiat's 500 Abarth hatchback, the 1.4-liter four produces 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Do we want to drive this car ASAP? You bet. READ MORE >>
2016 Honda Civic coupe
The long-awaited rejuvenation of Honda's Civic lineup is finally underway. First came the Civic sedan, and now this surprisingly neat-looking two-door coupe variant. READ MORE >>
2016 Honda Civic coupe
While it shares the majority of its bits with the four-door 2016 Civic, the coupe does carry one slick trick: It allows the pairing of the optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual. In the sedan, the turbo is CVT-only (a stick can be had with the base 2.0-liter four). And this isn't even the sporty Si version. READ MORE >>
2016 Mazda CX-9
Everybody loves the MX-5 Miata, but there's plenty of goodness to be found in the brand's other models. Finally bringing Mazda's lineup into full harmony is the redesigned CX-9, which replaces the old (but still-good, mind you) CX-9, which was first conceived during the Ford years. Like every current Mazda, the CX-9's design impresses, while its engineering promises to be of high quality. READ MORE >>
2016 Mazda CX-9
Oh, and let's not forget: Three-row family haulers are en fuego right now. With the new CX-9, Mazda can get about the business of taking on Honda's Pilot, Ford's Explorer, and the rest of them. The CX-9 is a big deal for Mazda, but it should be wonderful to customers, too—just look at that interior! READ MORE >>
