Sport for all is a theme of the 2016 BMW 4-series. The optional Sport Line body kit, which had been priced from $1550 to $2100, will become standard on every model. Of course, just because it’s standard doesn’t mean the sporty body is free: The entry-level 428i coupe is now $1145 more, at $42,845 with rear-wheel drive and $44,845 for xDrive.

The six-cylinder 435i sees a $1945 increase over 2015, for new total base of $49,145, with the xDrive coming in at $51,145. Convertibles ride the wave, too, up by $1295 and $2095 respectively for the 428i and 435i models. The cheapest topless BMW, aside from sliding down to the lighter, smaller 2-series convertible, is $50,995 for the four-cylinder 428i and $59,945 for the six, with xDrive adding $2000 to either trim.

The Sport Line delivers 18-inch wheels, more heavily bolstered seats, blackout trim, a red-stitched steering wheel, and a red-accented key fob. Also newly standard is an alarm system, for which BMW charged $400 on 2015 428i models. The 435i gains keyless entry, lumbar support, SiriusXM radio, and Harman Kardon surround sound, effectively deleting the 435i convertible’s $950 Premium package and $875 stereo option. Leather is still optional on the 435i coupe.

The Luxury and M Sport body kits have been replaced by corresponding packages of the same name, although the Luxury package can only be ordered with leather (and for the 428i, the Premium package). A new Track Handling package combines M Sport brakes and 18-inch V-spoke wheels with the Dynamic Handling package, which includes adaptive suspension and variable-ratio steering. BMW did not talk price but such gear currently bills for $1650.

In other 4-series news, the beautiful Estoril Blue paint was so beautiful no one was buying it, so it’s now only available via special order (which means you’ll need to put down a deposit with your BMW dealer). Saddle Brown leather is now available across the board instead of only on Luxury trims. And the automatic-parking feature can now back into a space, for when you’d rather leave the driving to the computer chips.
