This Slate Gray 1976 Porsche 930 is the very last special-order Porsche that the film icon ever bought. An early, non-intercooled example, the car wears a few custom touches added by McQueen—including a dashboard switch to kill the taillights in the event that authorities caught sight of him on a midnight run up Mulholland Drive.
Yeah, that’s pretty badass.
Mecum will sell this McQueen relic at the Monterey auction August 13th-15th. The listing doesn’t include an estimated price, but we assume this vehicle will pull in highly active bidding. And while the price will likely go way beyond the realm of normal enthusiasts, it’s for a good cause: Mecum says a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Boys Republic, the Chino Hills, California youth treatment facility that McQueen credited with turning his life around when he was a rebellious kid. As good as The Boys Republic was for McQueen, it couldn’t take the speed demon out of him—a fact for which we are forever grateful.
