Ford’s full-size Transit and mid-size Transit Connect vans were all-new for 2015 and 2014, respectively, but already the big boxes are are being tweaked. For the 2016 model year, Ford is implementing a host of tiny changes to both vans, the most notable of which is addition of the new Sync 3 infotainment system to the vans’ options list, as well as the inclusion of a backup camera on every Transit and Transit Connect.
Diving into the dark end of the van-changes pile, buyers both retail and commercial will appreciate the availability of dual sliding side doors on the medium- and high-roof Transit, as well as the relocation of the USB port to the dashboard above the cupholders. Oh, and map lights are now standard across the Transit board, and Ford has added four new colors: Shadow Black, Magnetic, Race Red, and our favorite, of course, Caribou (brown!).
Transit customers can opt for a third speed-limiter setting of 70 mph, in addition to the previously available 65- and 75-mph limiters, and those keen on sending their Transit to an up-fitter can order their vans with an auxiliary fuse panel, an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery on gas-powered models, and a heavy-duty alternator on wagon (passenger) versions. The Transit Connect, by the way, also gets flex-fuel capability on commercial models equipped with the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.
No matter the model year, however, just keep vannin’.
