Singer, builder of fine custom Porsche 911–based creations, has announced that its latest work of art is going to really Targa at our heartstrings. That’s because, well, it’s a 911 Targa, albeit one based on a later 964 air-cooled 911 and “backdated” to appear older. Like many Singer 911s, the old outside, new inside build format gives owners a modern high-performance driving experience wrapped in an exquisite, classic 911 shell. They’re like restomods, only much, much better. We’ve waxed poetic about the cars’ epic build quality and stunning details before, but the special Targa that will debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. will have us waxing yet again.
So far, Singer is playing coy with its 911 Targa build, showing only the car’s rear decklid, engine bay, and a glimpse of its classic Targa-signature brushed-metal roll-hoop cover. Like every other Singer, this one-off Targa comes fitted with outrageous custom touches, such as a nickel finish for the roll hoop, unique Fuchs-style wheels, a foldable soft top and a removable carbon-fiber one-piece top, an orange-colored leather and suede interior, full Öhlins suspension, orange-painted brake calipers, and more. Again, full details are forthcoming. We do know that power comes from a 4.0-liter flat-six built by Ed Pink Racing, and the engine puts a stupendous 390 horsepower to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Oh, and we also know that the car is headed to a customer in Montreal following Goodwood. We also know that we wish we lived in Montreal, and that we were the mystery customer taking delivery of this beauty. No, we haven’t even seen all of it, but we want it. Badly.
