Land Rover Heritage Driving Experience

Land Rover‘s history goes back nearly 70 years, to the original Series I off-roader of 1948. But unless you’re exceedingly well-heeled and/or a major collector, you probably haven’t had many chances to experience the full evolution of the legendary marque’s wares. Now you can: With the Land Rover Heritage Driving Experience, you can pay your way into the driver’s seat of some of the brand’s most iconic vehicles, driving them on- and off-road in their homeland at Land Rover’s West Midlands test facility.

Similar to sister company Jaguar’s Heritage Driving Experience, Land Rover’s offerings range from low-priced passenger-seat adventures to a full behind-the-wheel tour of the brand’s 67-year history. The most basic package, priced at just £40 ($61 at today’s exchange rate) lets you ride shotgun with a Land Rover Experience instructor at the company’s off-road park; the £125 ($192) Range Rover Then & Now package lets you compare a first-generation Range Rover with its 2015 progeny—including “a track induction for a higher speed experience,” something that was probably unfathomable in the early days when Range Rovers weren’t available in 510-hp supercharged form.

Then there’s the top-of-the-menu Collection experience, priced at £250 ($374), which lets you drive “all the key models in the brand’s history from the 1940s right up to the 2010s.” This package includes the earliest Series Land Rovers, military vehicles, and the full span of the Defender lineup, with both on- and off-road driving.

If you find yourself in England with a hankering to drive classic Land Rovers, or you’d like to plan a trip across the pond strictly for the opportunity, you can peruse all the details and available vehicles at Jaguar Land Rover’s Heritage Driving website. Given the available options, it’s pretty hard to say no.
