Teenager killed, another injured in security force firing in Kashmir - Web India

A teenager was killed and another was injured when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators who had blocked main road at Narbal on Srinagar-Gulmarg road today, when hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) had called for a general strike in protest against the Tral killings.


A police spokesman said an FIR has been registered as security forces deployed have acted in violation of the laid down SOP. Official sources said a group of people, mostly youths, blocked the main road at Narbal this morning, raising pro-freedom slogans. They said security forces opened fire to disperse the demonstrators who refused to allow traffic and were pelting stones.


Three youths were injured in the firing, they said, adding the injured were rushed to hospital where one of them 16-year-old Suhail Ahmad Sofi was declared brought dead.


Situation in Narbal was tense as more people joined the protests, they said adding senior police and security force officials rushed to the area. The hardliner Hurriyat Conference (HC) had called for a general strike today in protest against the killing of two youths, allegedly in fake encounter by Army at Kamla forest in Tral area of Pulwama on April 13, Police spokesman said today morning in Magam area there were reports of stone pelting on vehicles plying on Narbal-Gulmarg road.


Police along with paramilitary police was deployed to control the situation.


He said however, the deployed forces came under heavy pelting. To control the situation they fired few rounds resulting in injuries to a local youth namely Suhail Ahmad Sofi S/O Abdul Ahad Sofi R/O Narbal,Magam.


Unfortunately the injured later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. ''


We regret the unfortunate incident and extend our sympathies to the bereaved family,'' spokesman said..


''Preliminary enquiry conducted in the matter indicates that the forces deployed have acted in violation of the laid down SOP.


Case FIR No 34/2015 under section 302,147,149,341,427 RPC has been registered in police station Magam and further action would follow,'' he said.UNI BAS SY RSA RK1302
