For 37 years, the Dutch nuts at Donkervoort have been fiddling with Colin Chapman’s Lotus Seven formula. Unlike the blokes at Caterham, the Dutch concern hasn’t necessarily been concerned with keeping true to the Lotus’s aesthetic. As the years have progressed, Donkervoort’s cars, while retaining the Seven’s basic concept, have run off on their own visual and technological spur. And now there’s this, the D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition. Because Bare Carbon or Naked Carbon was not explicit enough for this wee beastie.
Loaded for bear with Audi’s nasty, brutish, and wonderful turbocharged inline five—a motor we died over repeatedly in the last-generation TT RS, the D8 GTO Bare Naked is positively packed with nekkid CF. Aside from the bodywork, the seats, door panels, dash, and doorsills are crafted of the stuff. They’ve also shoved it into the details, crafting seatbelt and rollbar trim, headlight housings and the ignition-cylinder housing from the woven material.
The Bare Naked lady is available sprayed in your choice of gloss or matte UV coating to prevent material degradation and adorned with color accents of your choice. Donkervoort is happy to note that the lack of paint and primer saves “several kilos” over having a paint job.
If all the nudity is a bit much for you, the normal D8 GTO is still available with carbon bits of your choosing. We suppose you could even spec a carbon whale-tail-’n’-tramp-stamp combo if you wished. But if you feel compelled to get kinda naked, why not just get bare naked? We guarantee the fine people of the Netherlands won’t mind.
