2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R

Pricing for the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R isn’t out yet, despite Ford’s decision to release a limited number of 2015-model-year variants sooner than expected (originally, the cars were slated to go on sale as 2016s), but now we at least have preliminary option pricing for both cars. Unofficially. It comes courtesy of the Mustang fanatics over at Mustang6G.com, who got the goods from dealers, and we’ve outlined the key takeaways below:

For the 2015 Mustang Shelby GT350, Ford will offer a Tech package ($7500), a Track package ($6500), navigation ($795), a black-painted roof ($695), and stripes ($475). Mustang6G doesn’t elaborate on what the packages contain, but some digging on our end reveals that the Track package includes Ford’s MagneRide shocks, selectable drive modes, a shock-tower brace, heavy-duty front springs, and engine oil cooler, and transmission and differential oil coolers. The Tech package will come with selectable drive modes, heated and cooled leather-and-faux-suede seats, a universal garage door opener, door mirrors with integrated turn signals, MagneRide, SiriusXM satellite radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation, the new SYNC 3 infotainment setup with an 8-inch touch screen, and two smart-charging USB ports.

The GT350R, while referred to as a separate model, is in fact an option code for the regular GT350 that will cost $3500. It appears as though selecting the R package requires the Track package (for a total option price of $10,000), meaning MagneRide, driver-selectable vehicle modes, the shock tower brace, heavy-duty front springs, engine oil cooler, and the transmission and differential oil coolers are included. The R gear also includes a special suspension setup, a front splitter, an aluminum rear bumper beam, carbon-ceramic front brake rotors, 19-inch carbon-fiber wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The R package also deletes the rear seat, air conditioning, radio, and the tire inflation kit.

According to Mustang6G, GT350R buyers can get something called the “SVT Touring package” for $3500, but we couldn’t find any mention of such an option in our research. We did find an “Electronics package,” a bundle that includes everything the R package deletes, from dual-zone automatic climate control to a radio, USB ports, and navigation, and we’re guessing that these two may be the same. Naturally, GT350R buyers aren’t denied the option of a black-painted roof and stripes, and those items cost the same here as they do on the base GT350.

We suspect that official pricing for the hot Mustangs will be released soon, and that the base price should ring in right around $52,000. Given that just a handful of the Shelbys will be built for 2015, we suggest waiting for the 2016 models to arrive to avoid a stampede at the dealership.
