Regardless of powertrain, the 718 Cayman is a fantastic sports car. Still, we’d opt for a mostly frill-free Cayman S over a highly optioned Cayman. With a base price of $67,350, the Cayman S is $12,400 dearer than the entry-level Cayman. The extra coin, however, nets the bigger flat-four engine and its more advanced variable-geometry turbocharger. Thanks to its greater low-end torque, additional 50 horses, and bigger standard fuel tank, the S is our preferred Cayman for both spirited and day-to-day driving. To keep costs down, we’d add just two options: a pair of 14-way power sport seats for $2320 and the $3170 Premium Plus package, which adds niceties such as:
