2018 Mazda Miata Red Roof

Yo, dawg, Mazda heard that you like red, so now you can adorn your Miata’s softtop, exterior, and interior with a variety of different shades of red. Unfortunately, there won’t be such a thing as a red-on-red-on-red Miata, but Mazda is now offering a Dark Cherry softtop, an Auburn interior color, and a new shade of Mazda’s Soul Red exterior hue for the 2018 MX-5 Miata.

Other updates for the 2018 edition of our favorite affordable roadster include some new equipment and a retuned rear suspension, along with slight price increases for each of the three trim levels. All 2018 MX-5 Miata softtops benefit from a slight rework of the rear suspension and the electric power steering, with the supposed benefits being a more solid ride and reduced interior noise.

The new Dark Cherry softtop is a no-cost option for any color combination or trim level, providing a more distinctive look than the standard black top. Three new exterior colors join the menu, too, comprising Eternal Blue Mica, Snowflake White Pearl Mica, and Soul Red Crystal, the latter two of which cost $200 and $595 extra. The Auburn Nappa leather upholstery, previously available only on the MX-5 RF Launch Edition, is now a $300 option for the top Grand Touring trim. Proximity-key entry is now standard on all trims, rather than being a stand-alone option.

Additionally, the base Sport trim, at a starting price now $395 higher at $26,185, gets Mazda’s 7.0-inch infotainment screen as standard, while the MX-5 Club now has standard heated cloth seats. There are now two versions of the Brembo/BBS option package available for the manual-transmission MX-5 Club: the standard $3770 package includes upgraded Brembo front brakes and 17-inch BBS wheels and the new addition of leather upholstery, but shelling out an additional $700 nets you all of those features plus heated Recaro sport seats.

We’re still waiting for Mazda to add the updated MX-5 to its online configurator so we can confirm which color combinations are possible with the red top and/or the red interior, but we’re told that red on red on red won’t be available. The 2018 models will start reaching dealerships in January, so keep your eyes peeled.
