As 90th birthday presents go, it doesn’t get much better than this 1972 AMC Javelin AMX, customized by Ringbrothers. That’s what Prestone got for its 90th anniversary at the 2017 SEMA show, having planted the seeds for the project at last year’s show. The build is incredible—especially considering that it’s one of the rare muscle-car projects that is based on a Javelin.
Beneath its yell0w-and-black paint job, a nod to Prestone’s color scheme, the Javelin’s highest-profile upgrade is in the engine bay, where there lives a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 that spins a Chevy automatic transmission and a carbon-fiber driveshaft leading to a Chevy rear end. The Ringbrothers brought the braking closer to modern standards with a four-corner Baer disc-brake setup clamped by six-piston calipers. A Detroit Speed subframe for a Camaro supports the front suspension and the Hellcat engine.
The interior is a mix of new and old, with a style of its own and impeccable craftsmanship. It’s about what we’ve come to expect from Ringbrothers based on their previous work, and you should cycle through our photo gallery here for a closer look.
