For the past couple of winters, Nissan has cornered the “sticking tracks on production vehicles” winter-special market, with its betracked NISMO RS and Rogue Warrior concepts, but this year, the torch has been picked up by GMC, with its Sierra Denali 2500HD All-Mountain truck. It’s a machine ideal for dragging daredevil tobogganers, mowing down platoons of snowmen, and, perhaps, if you prefer work to play, hauling half a cord of firewood up to the ol’ cabin. Alternately, the big Jimmy’s bed is a perfect place to mount your dual Gadsden and Black Rifle flags, while the tracks afford you the opportunity to carry your important message to a whole new audience.
The truck’s equipment wouldn’t be out of place on a SEMA show custom, featuring as it does a set of Mattracks 150 Series tracks done up in GMC red, Thule snowboard racks, wheel-well and underbody LEDs, a Rigid 30-inch light bar, an Advantage soft tonneau, and a Kicker amp-and-speaker setup. Under the hood sits a stock 445-horse, 910-lb-ft Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 backed by an Allison six-speed automatic transmission.
The big beastie will be on display through the winter at Vail Mountain, if you’re inclined to trek out to the tony wilds of Colorado to see it. West Coasters will be able to take in the backcountry majesty of its similarly equipped sibling, based on a Sierra 2500 All Terrain X, at the upcoming Los Angeles auto show, where snow bros will no doubt be conspiring to gank it, haul it up to Big Bear, and shred the gnar the whole day long.
