OK, so maybe not the country of the Netherlands itself, or its government. More accurately, the report comes from De Telegraaf, which states that Maserati’s high-riding SUV will emerge from hiding at Cobo Center next January.
Maserati is in the midst of an aggressive product push that will see it expand from three offerings—a trident, if you will—to six in just a few short years, and the one of the first additional tines to appear is the Levante SUV. According to Maserati’s own product plan, the Levante is set to appear sometime this year or early next, so the timing in the report makes some sense.
We already know that the SUV, which was previewed way back in 2011 by the Kubang concept pictured above, will ride on a Maserati platform (and not the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s, as originally expected), and that its pricing will cover a Porsche Cayenne–like $80,000 to $150,000 range. We’d previously expected the Levante’s production debut to occur at either the Frankfurt or Los Angeles auto shows later this year, and it still might, as we were unable to reach Maserati for comment on or confirmation of the Dutch intel.
Whenever the Levante arrives, it will join the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans, as well as the aging GranTurismo coupe and cabriolet in Maserati showrooms. Next year, the seductive Alfieri coupe arrives, followed one year later by its topless sibling. By 2018, the GranTurismo twins should be redesigned, too.
