A week after Takata doubled its airbag recall, the 10 affected automakers have just begun to identify the 17 million additional models that can shoot shrapnel at drivers and passengers in a crash. Of those already documented on our Takata page, Chrysler and Ford have added 2.1 million more cars, most of them later model years, to their recalls.

The 2009–2010 Chrysler 300, 2008–2010 Dodge Charger, 2009–2011 Dodge Dakota, 2005–2010 Dodge Magnum (no Magnums were previously recalled for this problem), 2009 Ram 2500 and 3500, 2009–2010 Ram 4500 and 5500, and 2008–2010 Mitsubishi Raider (built by Chrysler as a rebadged Dakota) are now included. All told, there are about 4.75 million Chrysler models in the U.S. with the defective Takata airbag inflators.

Ford has added the 2009–2014 Mustang and 2006 Ranger to its list, whereas before only the 2005–2008 Mustang, 2004–2005 Ranger and 2005–2006 GT were included. These vehicles now total 1.38 million Fords in the U.S.

Keep checking our Takata coverage for daily updates as more manufacturers, including BMW, Honda, and Mitsubishi, call out specific models.
