Leno drives a Honda S600 that could murder your Miata

The 1964 Honda S600 was an engineering tour de force, a teensy-weensy roadster with a high-revving, motorcycle-inspired engine and chain drive. It was completely alien on 1960s roads, especially when you consider the broad, big-inch bruisers that largely dominated U.S. highways at the time.

And while traditionalists might see Matt Brown’s S600 as a bastardization of a rare and unique machine, it stays true to the original vehicle’s intent—while blasting away from 1960s tech on a wave of screaming sportbike sound. Because in lieu of the 600-cc engine originally fitted to this little roadster, Brown has shoehorned a 1000-cc four-cylinder from a 2007 Honda CBR1000RR under the hood. Well, mostly under the hood.

It’s a combination that caught the eye of none other than Jay Leno—a ratty, survivor-spec body draped over completely reworked mechanicals. And just wait until you see what that modern infusion of streetbike speed does to Jay’s face when he hops behind the wheel.
