2013 Chevrolet Volt

It’s now possible to buy a new Chevrolet Volt for 15 percent off. That means you can walk out paying less than $35,000 a car that silly, impatient people spent 41 grand on just a short while ago.

After five model years, America’s first plug-in hybrid is getting one last Memorial Day sendoff before the cheaper, quicker, and more efficient 2016 Volt arrives this summer. Through June 1st, Chevy dealers are taking 15 percent off the 2015 Volts that have been sitting on lots the longest, which amounts to at least $5275 in savings. While this same discount applies to six other Chevy models, the Volt is the second slowest-selling General Motors vehicle (behind the Chevrolet City Express van), with a 172-day supply through April. That’s 51-percent higher than last year, according to data from WardsAuto, and worse than the Nissan Leaf‘s 123-day supply.

Chevy dealers have more than 5800 Volts to clear out—more than double the number they sold this year through April—so the company is using every weapon in its sale arsenal. Want free money? GM will finance a 2014 Volt at zero percent for 48 months (Californians and Oregonians can do the same on 2015 Volts, plus they can extend the term to 72 months and get $1500 cash back). The lease deals are also pretty decent, at $249 per month for 39 months with zero down (the fine print varies depending if you’re a current GM lessee or not). It gets even better in California and Massachusetts, which will hand $2500 rebate checks to new Volt owners (since it’s not a tax credit, you won’t have to wait until April 2016 to claim the freebie).

Nissan dealers are also throwing money around, with zero-percent APR for 72 months and $3500 cash back on 2015 Leafs in select areas. And if you really want to bargain this weekend, Mitsubishi has a 231-day supply of its i-MiEV on hand, which means that wee EV could probably be snatched up for the price of a few high-def TVs.
