Heavy artillery is being deployed. All cabinet ministers, 120 MPs and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states will campaign in various parts of the city, targeting different community and social groups. Minister for chemical and fertilizers Anant Kumar said the entire effort was aimed at ensuring that the party gets a two-third majority in Delhi assembly. "We are certain about our victory but we want to ensure that we get a two-third majority,'' said Kumar, who attended the review meeting which was chaired by BJP chief Amit Shah.
While the state unit is busy in making arrangements for Modi's first rally in east Delhi on Saturday, the party has planned several public meetings by senior BJP members. Sources say the schedule for the public meetings in the last week of campaigning will be prepared by senior party members. On Friday, BJP chief Amit Shah; Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Smriti Irani and Sushma Swaraj; and BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari and Yogi Adityanath will address meetings in various parts of the city. "From Monday, the party is planning at least 30-40 public meetings daily which will be addressed by MPs, including cabinet ministers. The local units have been asked to make necessary arrangements,'' said a party member.
The decision to intensify its election campaign was taken at a review meeting which was chaired by Shah on Thursday at the Delhi BJP headquarters. The meeting lasted for nearly an hour and was attended by senior party members, including cabinet ministers.
The party has already deployed thousands of workers from other states in all the assembly constituencies. It has appointed 1.25 lakh panna pramukhs who will do door-to-door campaigning till February 5. On the media front, the party plans to put up over a thousand hoardings and banners across the city. Sources say, with days left for assembly elections, the party does not want to leave anything to chance. "In the last leg of the election campaign, all party workers, including cabinet ministers, will campaign in the city. From February 1, it will start distributing pamphlets which will highlight BJP's achievements,'' said a senior party worker.
As for party's plan for the city, BJP has decided to come out with a vision document instead of a manifesto, as reported by TOI on Thursday. Clarifying the party's stand, Kumar said, "We want to tell about our plan for Delhi. We will not release a manifesto but present a vision document." Sources say since Bedi has already started releasing her plan for the city's development on a micro-blogging site, the party has decided that the vision document will be in alignment with her plan. On Thursday, Bedi released her "15-point programme that will increase engagement and development of Delhi's youth" on Twitter.\
