The 2019 Santa Fe will make its public debut at the 2018 Geneva auto show next month, but Hyundai apparently couldn’t wait to show off its redesigned SUV and released two images of the new Santa Fe ahead of time.
The automaker’s largest vehicle sheds its old design language for a more aggressive exterior package and a simplified interior layout. The three-row model’s new styling aligns it with Hyundai’s new exterior look, also seen on the compact Kona CUV and the fuel-cell Nexo SUV. It features a deep grille and long, narrow headlights. A thick metal bar underlines the headlights and defines the top of the grille, while a faux skid plate marks the chin.
Compared with the previous generation, the new Santa Fe has a longer wheelbase but is shorter in overall length, making for shorter overhangs. It is now 187.8 inches long, a reduction of 5.3 inches, while the width remains about the same at 74.4 inches, up slightly from 74.2.
The interior also has been redone, but we only have one view of the front of the cabin. Although the curved trim that extends from the door panels onto the dash has been retained, the vertical layout and integrated screen are no longer. Hyundai instead switched to a free-standing central screen in the top of the center stack and uses a horizontal setup for the climate controls below. Hyundai and Kia have been among the best automakers at blending just enough physical buttons with on-screen controls, and the new Santa Fe again appears to offer a pleasing combination of both.
