While some BMW dealers initially jacked up M2 prices, the manufacturer suggests $53,495 to start. Compare that with the 375-hp Mercedes-AMG CLA45 ($50,945) and the 400-hp Audi RS3 ($55,450). Wild-card alternatives include the race-ready Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, which starts at $57,045, and the track-special Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, which starts at $44,400. All of the above have similar performance but unique driving character. Among its classmates, the M2 is more precise than the obscene AMG and slower but sharper and stiffer-riding than the balanced RS3. Both of those four-door rivals have all-wheel drive, unlike the BMW, but only the M2 has a manual transmission. If the M2 makes the cut, the buying process is made simple with limited options:
