Yesterday, we told you about the new Citroën Berlingo van, and today PSA announced the Peugeot version, the Rifter. But in order to add some excitement around the launch of its new people-hauler, the lion-logo brand also rolled out the Rifter 4×4 concept, a van with a more rugged, outlaw countenance.
In additional to four-wheel drive, the ruggedized Rifter features an additional 3.2 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and a turbo-diesel engine making 221 lb-ft of torque paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The body is finished in a sinister gray with black and yellow accents, and a 100-LED light bar at the top of the windshield flashes deep in the night. Up front, a matte-black mask covers the leading edge of the hood, which should help prevent damage when you’re doing one hundred and twenty plowing over mailboxes.
When it’s time to pull over to the river, to take a rest, you can bust out the included Peugeot electric bicycle, the eM02 FS Powertube MTB, whose battery is contained within the frame. On top of the Rifter is a pop-up tent affixed to the accessory roof bars, so owners don’t have to spend another night at the Motel 6.
The Rifter 4×4 concept will make its debut at the Geneva auto show, but in spirit, it’s more at home on the high plains, or wherever your vagabond life takes you.
