What’s New for 2018?

Lots. The WRX has undergone a thorough update for the 2018 model year. All models feature a revised front end, revamped suspension tuning, and an improved electric power-steering system. The six-speed manual transmission features a new synchromesh design, and the cabin benefits from noise-reduction additions such as thicker side glass, improved door seals, and a windshield-header beam that has been filled with foam. Other changes include a 5.9-inch upper-center dashboard display that replaces last year’s 4.3-inch unit, white gauge cluster illumination in place of last year’s red, and a new fold-down center armrest for rear-seat passengers. Midline Premium models adopt a larger 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a new 18-inch wheel design along with an optional Performance package that includes comfortable and well-bolstered Recaro front seats (with eight-way power operation for the driver), red-painted brake calipers, and improved brake pads. The package is limited to the WRX Premium with the manual transmission; choosing it requires deleting the trim’s standard sunroof. Finally, the WRX Limited now includes a 10-way power driver’s seat, LED headlights and fog lights, and new 18-inch wheels and a 7.0-inch display shared with the WRX Premium. Limiteds equipped with the optional continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and Subaru’s EyeSight active safety technology feature an automatic brake-hold system as well as a new indicator that keeps the driver informed of the system’s status via LED lights that reflect off the windshield.
