Volvo-S60-V60-Polestar-2018

The Polestar enhancements to Volvo’s mid-size sedan and wagon,  the S60 and the V60, have proved to be  popular—so much so that Volvo plans to make twice as many for the 2018 model year. Production is increasing to 1500 cars worldwide, although the models again will be a rare sight on U.S. streets, with only 200 allocated for the States. The 362-hp Volvos can hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, per our recent test of a V60 Polestar, and apparently that’s a compelling notion.

The models will be offered in the same five colors, although there are some visual tweaks. A new carbon-fiber front splitter, rocker-panel trim, and rear spoiler are said to increase downforce by 30 percent versus the 2017 models. Other 2018 changes merely make these gorgeous Swedes look hotter; they include gloss black “diamond cut” wheels, carbon-fiber mirror caps, new upholstery, blue contrast stitching, and embroidered Polestar logos. Pricing holds steady at $60,995 for the S60 Polestar sedan and $62,595 for the V60 Polestar wagon.

The Polestar aero kit isn’t Volvo’s first application of carbon fiber on a road car, incidentally. That distinction goes to the V40 Carbon, released outside the United States in 2015 with a carbon-fiber roof panel and side sills.
