SC's step on black money list on the lines of Modi govt, BJP says - Times of India

NEW DELHI: The ruling BJP on Wednesday said the Supreme Court's observation on the black money issue will only help hasten the process of retrieving the illegal money stashed away in foreign banks.

Reacting to the Supreme Court deciding to send the list of names submitted to it to the SIT, the party said it's no different from what the Narendra Modi government had done after coming to power in May. "The court's observation will only put the process that is already under way on a fast track and the step taken by the court is on the same lines as that of the government," said party secretary Shrikant Sharma.

BJP questioned Congress' "moral authority" on pointing fingers at the Modi government's move on the black money issue, since the "Congress-led UPA barely acted on it". Sharma said, "Congress has no moral right to speak on this issue because the Modi government has done in 60 days what Congress failed to do in 60 years in the interest of the country."

In fact, even after a Supreme Court order in 2011 to constitute an SIT to investigate the black money issue, the UPA government failed to set it up, he said. The SIT was the set up after a decision in the first cabinet meeting held by the Modi government on May 27, he said.
