MUMBAI: Sena has for long staked a claim on 'Maratha manoos.' Come Friday, BJP will be seen usurping it from the Sainiks. In an extravagant swearing-in function to be attended by PM Modi, BJP members are all set to display their love for the state.

The ceremony is being designed by award-winning art director Nitin Desai, creator of sets for Bollywood blockbusters like Jodha Akbar, Lagaan and Devdas, and the stage and the proceedings of the one hour event at Wankhede Stadium will reflect the "pracheen sanskruti"of Maharashtra. Using technology, stories of leaders such as Shivaji and other maratha warriors will be told to people, starting with how Maharashtra was 350 years ago during the first Rajyabhishek (coronation) in Raigad, Desai said.


"This was decided yesterday after Fadnavisji said he wanted the event to be dedicated to the people of Maharashtra," he added. Ashish Shelar, Mumbai BJP president who is planning this part of the event said places close to the Maharashtrian traditions such as Raigad, Pandarpur, Dikshabhumi will be shown with LED and advanced technologies.


"The event will be a celebration of the culture of Maharashtra, of Marathi pride. It will also be an indication that our party is here to stay, work for the people of the state," said Shellar.


The starting and ending slots of the event will have special musical programmes related to maratha folk tradition. A cultural performance by renowned Marathi artist Ashok Hande (of Marathi Bana) will entertain those present, before the ceremony.


Invitations have already been sent out to Uddhav Thackeray, Raj Thackeray, Prithiviraj Chavan and Sharad Pawar. Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Anjali Bhagawat too have been invited. Other celebrity invitees include Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.
