Accommodating buyers who want seating for more than five passengers but who don’t necessarily like the size or looks of the bulkier GX and LX, Lexus has stretched its popular RX crossover to add a third row of seats. Lexus has now announced pricing for the larger models, and the extra space comes in at better than $1000 an inch.
The RX L is 4.3 inches longer than the standard RX while maintaining the same wheelbase. The extended RX comes in six flavors, including both front- and all-wheel-drive versions, and can be purchased with a traditional V-6 or a hybrid powertrain. The front-wheel-drive RX350L starts things off at $48,665, which is a $4400 premium over the two-row RX350. The range-topping all-wheel-drive hybrid RX450hL opens at $51,615, which is $4925 more than the regular RX450h.
All 350 models use a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 290 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is a $1400 option. For $5015, buyers can add the Luxury package to the 350, which brings 20-inch wheels, cushion extenders and power lumbar support for both front seats, semi-aniline perforated-leather upholstery, rear window shades, wood and aluminum interior trim, illuminated LED doorsills, a heated steering wheel with wood and leather trim, LED ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and memory programming for the driver’s settings.
The RX450hL is powered by a V-6 coupled with a pair of electric motors for a combined 308 horsepower; an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. The Luxury package on the hybrid, at $3935, is slightly cheaper than on 350 models. This could be attributed to the fact that the RX450hL already comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs, leather-trimmed seats, driver memory settings, and Lexus Enform Safety Connect.
The RX350L models are already currently on sale, and Lexus expects the RX450hL to hit dealers in April.
