The sharpened version of Lamborghini’s top-dog supercar, the Aventador S, is gaining a topless variant. Predictably, it’s called the Lamborghini Aventador S roadster, and it features the same updates bestowed on its hardtop sibling, including a screaming 730-hp V-12 and a four-wheel-steering system for greater agility.

The key difference, of course, appears just aft of the car’s windshield in the form of two removable carbon-fiber roof panels, each weighing about 13 pounds, that can be stored in the front trunk. The Aventador S Roadster also gets a few different body panels behind the removable roof section and a power rear window that can be raised or lowered regardless of whether the top is in place or not. Customers keen on personalizing a droptop Aventador can specify different finishes for the roof panels other than the standard matte black.

Mechanically, the Aventador S Roadster uses the same 6.5-liter V-12, seven-speed automated manual transmission, and all-wheel-drive system as the hardtop. With only a 110-pound weight gain for the convertible, that combination is good for a claimed zero-to-62-mph run of 3.0 seconds, just 0.1 second behind Lambo’s estimate for the coupe, and top speed is an identical 217 mph.

The premium for getting an open-air experience in the Aventador S is steep: an extra $38,897 over the coupe. If that’s worth it to you, deliveries start February 2018.
