Expect the 2018 Kia Stinger to undercut the Audi A5 Sportback and the BMW 430i Gran Coupe by more than $10,000 when it goes on sale in December.
A Kia spokesperson confirmed that the base Stinger is projected to sticker for $32,795. That figure nets consumers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps 255 horsepower to the four-door hatchback’s rear wheels, an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, leather seats, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible, and dual-zone automatic climate control. All-wheel drive is a $2200 option throughout the entire Stinger lineup. Opting for the better-equipped Stinger Premium will push the model’s price up to $37,895 and adds items including LED headlights, a sunroof, a 7.0-inch digital display in the instrument cluster, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.
Kia claims the four-cylinder Stinger will scoot from zero to 60 mph in a reasonable 5.9 seconds, but those in search of more oomph will want to sidle up to the Stinger GT. With a 365-hp twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 engine, it pushes the Korean hatch from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 4.7 seconds. With an anticipated base price of $39,895, the Stinger GT promises performance that rivals the more than $15,000 pricier Audi S5 Sportback.
Unlike the four-cylinder Stinger, the Stinger GT will be offered in three trim levels. The base Stinger GT sports equipment levels similar to the entry-level four-cylinder model but adds GT-specific exterior features such as faux hood vents, a different grille treatment and rear bumper cover, and aluminum interior trim. The $44,395 Stinger GT1 combines the key content features of the four-cylinder Stinger Premium with the GT’s styling and V-6 powertrain. Finally, the top-of-the-line Stinger GT2 is pegged to list for $50,395. The priciest Stinger trim comes standard with trim-exclusive features such as a head-up display, a power-opening trunk, and a limited-slip differential. Additionally, the Stinger GT2 includes automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic headlights, and adaptive cruise control—all of which cost extra on other Stingers.
Note that although these prices are quite specific, Kia is characterizing them as estimates. The company says they are subject to change by the time the Stinger reaches dealerships at the end of the year.
