Chevrolet Silverado Heritage Edition

Chevrolet’s truck business turns 100 years old in the 2018 model year, and there is no better place for it to kick off the celebrations than at the Lone Star State gala that is the Texas State Fair, in the heart of truck country. Headlining the festivities, which Chevy said will continue over the next few months, are the 2018 Silverado 1500 and Colorado Centennial Editions.

Available only as off-road-oriented Z71 models, the lightly bedazzled commemorative pickups are notable for their Centennial Blue paint and the “heritage inspired” bow-tie emblems adorning their grilles, front doors, and tailgates. Ringed in chrome with dark blue centers in place of the traditional Chevy gold, the special bow tie also sports the word Chevrolet in a chrome  script that harks back to some of the brand’s earliest rigs, including the original 1918 One-Ton. Both trucks also feature 100-year badges on the front doors, chrome tow hooks, and more bow ties on their spray-in bedliners and floor mats.

Other additions for the four-wheel-drive, crew-cab-only Silverado version include the LTZ trim level of equipment, 22-inch painted alloy wheels with chrome inserts, and yet another chrome bow tie on the steering wheel. The mid-size Colorado Centennial is available as either a crew cab or an extended cab, with rear- or four-wheel drive. It’s further dressed up with 18-inch wheels, a body-color rear bumper and grille surround, and chrome mirror caps, door handles, and body moldings.

Chevrolet hasn’t released pricing yet for either model, but the modest dress-ups should add around $3000 to the prices of the trucks’ non-celebratory counterparts. A regular 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71, for example, starts at $49,985 with a 5.3-liter V-8 and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The extended-cab 2018 Colorado Z71 4×2 with a 2.5-liter inline-four and a six-speed automatic has a base sticker of $30,465, with starting MSRPs surpassing $40K as you add the crew-cab body, four-wheel drive, and the larger 3.6-liter V-6 or the turbo-diesel 2.8-liter inline-four.

Because 100 years is a pretty big deal, Chevrolet also has cooked up some additional birthday tie-ins for the bow-tie faithful: a Centennial-edition run of Phoenix bass boats and 24-foot enclosed inTech trailers, both of which are done up to match the pickups, as well as a custom 1967 Chevrolet C-10 show truck that will be on display at this year’s SEMA show. The party continues with the nationwide rollout of the brand’s Truck Legends program (it was previously only offered in Texas), which is a free membership-based program that rewards Chevy’s most loyal truck owners with swag, an online community, and access to special Chevrolet events and experiences.

The whole 100-day celebration culminates with a shindig on December 16 at Texas Motor Speedway. By then, you’ll be able to roll up in your special-edition Chevy truck, as the Centennial Silverado goes on sale in October and the Colorado follows in November.
