While Reuters focuses on the prospects of the co-flagship possibly being an SUV—fair enough, given that Bentley is about to join Range Rover and Porsche in pawning six-figure utes to the world’s well-heeled sybarites—our money is on Lexus sexing things up with a coupe along the lines of the LF-LC 2+2 coupe. That car was more or less confirmed in a report in Auto Express last year. It’s also worth noting that Lexus trademarked the names LC500 and LC500h late last year, according to a report in Automotive News. That said, choosing a name is no guarantee of production. “We will stake the claim to quite a few names before we use one,” one Lexus insider told us.
“We’ll define what it is in January,” Bracket told Reuters, although he did not say whether that meant Lexus would show us something in the metal at, say, the 2016 Detroit auto show, or if that simply meant January is when the powers that be will be making their decision.
Should the Lexus brain trust still be weighing their options, we’d like to nudge them toward the coupe because, well, the world needs more emotional cars—as does Lexus. And with four SUVs in its lineup already, the brand hardly needs another one of those, however decadent it may be.
