As reported by Carscoops, Hyundai’s South Korean mothership took to Facebook to release design sketches of its upcoming new Avante—the Elantra to us. This teaser comes ahead of the car’s expected debut next month at the Frankfurt auto show.
The sketch teaser pretty much validates this shot of a new Elantra that appeared in the Korea Economic Daily last spring. That car was labeled as a 2016 model, but since Hyundai has already released information on our 2016 Elantra, the new version is likely to be a 2017 model in the States.
Both the photo and the new sketches show the Avante/Elantra wearing a wide, slatted hexagonal grille; a Toyota-esque lower fascia with angled air intakes; and high-shouldered flanks that borrow a bit from the Ford Fusion. In all, it’s a more creased, substantial look than the current model with its flowing lines, which was introduced for 2011. We’ll likely get an even better look at the new car next month, but for now, it appears that design chief Peter Schreyer is continuing to make his presence felt.
