2016 Honda Odyssey SE

The Honda Odyssey
soon will be undergoing a complete redesign, but that version of the popular kid-hauler won’t be out until next year, so Honda will still peddle the current model for 2016. As the company often does for the last year of one of its vehicles, it is adding a bargain-priced SE trim level and stuffing it with key features. The hope is to entice parents who otherwise might be tempted to wait for the all-new version.

To that end, the SE’s key additional features include the rear-seat entertainment system, to keep the little buggers tranquilized, and the HondaVAC built-in vacuum cleaner (which we tested!), to suck up all the Cheerios they drop while watching videos. It also includes satellite radio and an additional power outlet.

The SE slots in between the EX and the leather-lined EX-L, putting it in the number-three spot in the eight-model Odyssey hierarchy. The SE is the lowest-level Odyssey to come with the rear-seat entertainment system, which is standard on all higher versions as well. And it is the only model aside from the top-spec Touring Elite to offer the built-in vacuum cleaner.

Pricing for the SE is $34,255. That puts it toward the lower end of the Odyssey range, which runs from $30,155 for the base LX to $45,630 for the aforementioned Touring Elite. The 2016 prices have been cranked up by $150 over those from 2015, except for the LX, which is $300 higher.
