Patna: Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is scheduled to leave for Delhi by a Saturday evening service flight to attend the governing council meeting of the NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog, to be presided over by PM Narendra Modi on Sunday.
"Since the NITI Aayog meeting is scheduled to be held at the PM's official residence at 7 Race Course, Manjhi may get a chance to have a one-on-one interaction with the PM on the sidelines," a state government official preferring anonymity told TOI on Friday. In official schedule, however, there was no mention of the one-on-one meeting.
He also said the Aayog meeting would begin at 10am on Sunday and Manjhi would be attending it in his capacity as a governing council member. The Aayog's governing council comprise the CMs of all the states and Lieutenant Governors of Union territories.
Besides presenting the state's views on the role and functions of the Aayog for which the PM has convened the meet, Manjhi would also raise other policy matters concerning Bihar, the official said and added the issue of special category state status for Bihar, the pet demand of predecessor Nitish Kumar, would also be raised besides the deduction in the central allocation to the state.
Manjhi had earlier in May 2014 raised the issue of special category status when Modi had called him up after he was sworn in as the chief minister in place of Nitish, sources recalled.
Besides interacting with CMs of other states, Manjhi would also hold talks with NITI Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya, PM's chief economic adviser Arvind Subramanian and the Aayog's full-time members Bibek Debroy and V K Saraswat.
