Mukul won't be attending the party meet in Kolkata. "I have been informed about the meeting. But I won't be able to make it. The budget will be placed in Parliament tomorrow. This apart, I have some personal work in Delhi. I have conveyed this to my party," he said in Delhi on Friday.
The Trinamool national secretary would like the world to believe that he doesn't mind the downsizing. "The party chief, Trinamool members in Parliament have the prerogative of choosing the leader. It is nothing unnatural," was his nonchalant response. His son, Subhrangshu, who is facing disciplinary action for criticizing the leadership, touched chief minister Mamata Banerjee's feet in the Assembly corridor during the day.
According to Trinamool insiders, Mukul's functional role in the party will now be limited to only being an MP. Derek O'Brien, the party's chief whip in Rajya Sabha, is a front runner for the post of party's Rajya Sabha leader. A visibly irate CM chose to end a post-budget press conference when a reporter asked her a question on Mukul. "There is a limit to everything," she said, signaling an end.
