The Delhi Police has been allocated Rs 5,372.88 crore in the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2015-2016, an increase of Rs 500 crore from the previous Budget.
This year, officials said, the increase in budgetary allocation was specially done keeping in mind the upgradation of the police force in terms of traffic infrastructure, technology and man power.
The Budget earmarked Rs 3.40 crore for the Nirbhaya Fund, to be used for the upkeep of security of women in the city. Last year’s Budget had allocated Rs 3 crore for the same.
Of the money allotted for the Nirbhaya Fund, a specific amount has been earmarked for the maintenance of the integrated android application, Himmat, — which lets women in distress to send SOS calls in case of an emergency — as well as mobile vans and control rooms. The application was recently launched by the police and Home Ministry.
Rs seven crore was also allocated for ‘Developing Traffic and Communication Network in NCR Mega Cities and Model Traffic System’ while Rs eight crore was earmarked for installing traffic signals.
Rs three crore was allotted for the upgradation and training of the police force, which was the same amount allocated in the 2014-2015 Budget.
Rs 95 crore has also been set aside for construction of police residences – Rs 30 crore more than last year’s Rs 62.5 crore.
Budgetary allocation for construction of police buildings stood at Rs 246.50 crore as compared to last year’s allocation of Rs 152 crore.
The Budget also allotted Rs 390 crore for planned expenditure and nearly Rs 4,980 for non-planned expenditure.
