Delhi: The Krishna Nagar office of BJP's chief ministerial candidate for upcoming Delhi polls, Kiran Bedi, was attacked on Monday, allegedly by lawyers, as per reports.
Reports said that around 500-600 lawyers attacked her office and 6-7 people have been injured due to it.
Bedi herself tweeted about it, saying that some people may have been injured in the attack.
The former cop posted on the micro-blogging site: “My BJP constituency office in Krishna Nagar has been attacked. Informed some injured too. Cutting short Rallies, rushing back.”
Later after taking stock of the situation, Bedi said that the incident was "absolutely unfortunate". She also questioned as to whether polls were fought in this manner.
She told reporters, "Case has been registered, CCTV footage will be handed to police. Statement of the injured are recorded, probe will reveal truth," as per ANI.
"Is this a civilized way? This is why civilized people don't want to enter politics," Bedi said.
On January 22, a group of lawyers had burnt the effigy of Bedi, opposing BJP's decision to nominate her as its CM candidate for Delhi polls.
The advocates had raised slogans against Bedi and burnt her in effigy at Tis Hazari District Courts complex, in protest against the clamp down by police force on lawyers in Tis Hazari Court in 1988 when Bedi was the DCP (North).
Advocate Sanjeev Nasiar, President of Tis Hazari Court Bar Association, had said Bedi that should make her stand clear on the 1988 incident and the lawyers would, thereafter, decide their future course of action, as per PTI.
Nasiar, who is also the convener of the coordination committee of all district court bar associations, had however, made it clear that the decision to burn an effigy of Bedi and protest was not taken by the committee and it was done by a group of lawyers.
The lawyers had said when Bedi was posted as the DCP North here, she did everything to take avenge on advocates of Tis Hazari court who were demanding commission of enquiry against the 'brutal' lathicharge.
