It seems every number surrounding the Bugatti Chiron induces an increased heart rate, bulging eyes, and a sense of disbelief. Four turbochargers and 16 cylinders. A gut-punching 1500 horsepower. Zero to 249 mph to zero in 42 seconds. The spec sheet almost makes the $3 million price tag sound reasonable. To honor such a monumental achievement, Amalgam Collection borrowed Rick Moranis’s electromagnetic machine and shrunk the Chiron’s powertrain down to 1:4 scale. Now Bugatti has a new number. The obsessively detailed Chiron engine model is priced at $9365.

That figure might seem outrageous, too, but as with the Chiron itself, you can’t help but admire the finished product. Amalgam worked with Bugatti on the project and claims this model took 2500 hours to develop; each hand-built example requires approximately 220 hours to build.

It is 18 inches long and nine inches tall, and each component has been replicated to scale. Every model uses 1040 individual pieces, but, unfortunately, none of those parts move. The model incorporates polyurethane prototyping resin, stainless steel, and pewter metal to craft an engine and gearbox that the most technical aficionado will geek out over. Even barcodes, part numbers, and labels are present, all checked and approved by Bugatti personnel.

This is the first time Amalgam produced an engine model this intricate since it built a Ferrari 049 engine more than 10 years ago. The company does produce numerous other scale models, however, including the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo, a Ferrari 333SP, and a Jaguar E-type Series 1 3.8 coupe. Amalgam will even create a 1:8 replica of your own car—for the right price.
