Later this year, the snout-faced Ram Rebel will no longer be the family member who looks like he was adopted. The refreshed 2017 Ram Power Wagon comes to showrooms this fall with the Rebel-style makeover and a $53,015 price tag.

Essentially a heavy-duty version of the Rebel, the Power Wagon, in its 12th year since the return of the nameplate, is based on the Ram 2500 HD Crew Cab. The self-proclaimed “most capable off-road truck in America” offers the same kind of paths-less-traveled package it always has. This year, however, the visual add-ons go beyond graphics and badging with the adoption of a new grille and new taillights.

The mechanical formula is pretty much status quo. The Power Wagon demands respect with a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 that makes 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, and stands tall on 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. The off-road setup includes Bilstein monoshocks, a specific five-link rear coil-spring suspension with an electronically disconnecting anti-roll bar, and electronically locking front and rear differentials. The kicked-up pickup has 14.3 inches of ground clearance, 26 inches of wheel travel, and can traverse up to 30 inches of water. For those who still somehow manage to get stuck, there are tow hooks, skid plates, and a 12,000-pound Warn winch.

To make your dirt-slinging adventures nice and cushy, Ram is offering a “Leather and Luxury” package for the Power Wagon for $4495. It has heated and ventilated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, a nine-speaker Alpine sound system, parking sensors and a backup camera, dual-zone climate control, and power-folding mirrors. Ram says that it’s also possible to add the $8450 Power Wagon equipment package to the Ram 2500 4×4 Crew Cab Tradesman model for a total of $48,315.
