Horsepower: 600; Weight: 3883 lb; Price as tested: $151,880 Nissan refuses to allow the GT-R to swan off into quiet obsolescence, hence this 600-hp model. Because more horsepower is exactly what the GT-R needs. READ MORE ››

Godzilla’s place is on a track. That’s the message Nissan seems to be sending with its new promotion for the GT-R: Buy one between November 14, 2016, and March 31, 2017, and Nissan will throw in one day of track-driving instruction at Virginia International Raceway.

Nissan claims the freebie has a $2000 value, but there are a few catches. You have to get yourself—and your car—to VIR. That’s right, you’ll be tracking your own ride and chewing up your own tires and brakes at this experience. (That’s unlike Cadillac’s free track time for V-Series buyers and Ford’s Track Attack program for Shelby GT350/GT350R owners, where you wail on the manufacturer’s cars.) Given the intensity of the track-driving experience, Nissan recommends owners wait until after the break-in period before heading to VIR. The offer comes with either version of the GT-R: the 565-hp Premium ($111,685) or the 600-hp NISMO ($176,685). The program doesn’t void the car’s warranty, long a question among those in the GT-R community who intend to track their cars.

VIR is home to C/D‘s annual Lightning Lap competition. It’s unlikely that the instruction will take place on the same Grand West configuration we run. But, hey, if that turns out to be the case, feel free to try to beat our best GT-R lap time of 2:49.4 (set in 2014 with a NISMO).
