2017 Nissan Titan single cab

These days, four-door crew-cab pickups make up a plurality of truck sales, but there’s still room for two-door, single-cab models for fleet and work-truck buyers. So Nissan recently added a single-cab body style to the Titan and almost-heavy-duty Titan XD lineups, promising sales would kick off in the fall of 2016. Now that those Titans are on sale, we have prices for both models.

Opting for the two-door Titan saves $5200 relative to the crew cab, with a two-wheel-drive base “S” model coming in at $30,775. The only other trim level, the SV—a mid-level trim on the four-door Titan crew cab—starts at $33,655. Given the single-cab Titan’s positioning as a work truck, there are no fancier trims like those offered on the Titan crew cab. Every Titan single-cab model has an 8.0-foot bed, the longest bed length Nissan offers, as well as a 390-hp 5.6-liter V-8 and a seven-speed automatic transmission. Nissan ladles on more standard equipment than its competitors—including power windows, cruise control, cloth seats, and a 5.0-inch infotainment display—offsetting the Titan’s price premium of up to $1000 compared with an equivalent (long bed, two-wheel-drive, V-8–powered) Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, or Ram 1500.

The better-equipped Titan SV single-cab model starts at $33,655 and unlocks multiple option packages that aren’t available on the S. Moving further up the ladder, the Titan XD single cab doesn’t cost much more than its regular-duty sibling, ringing in at $32,285 in S trim, followed by the $36,185 SV. Opting for the available Cummins diesel V-8 engine on either trim requires an additional $6050, and four-wheel drive costs $3030. (The diesel isn’t offered on the regular Titan single cab, but four-wheel drive on those models costs $3030, too.) Will Nissan sell a ton of single-cab Titans? No, but the company said it anticipates that the body style will make up 10 percent of all Titan sales and tap a key demographic: commercial buyers. The brand has already reached out to those buyers with its NV van lineup in recent years, so the regular-cab Titan and Titan XD could build on that business.
