Ford is recalling 8963 F-150 pickups in the U.S. for steering shafts that can break, the automaker said today.

Poor riveting on the upper intermediate shaft can cause it to separate from the steering assembly on certain 2015 F-150s, causing a sudden total loss of steering. Ford said it knows of one report of steering failure but did not report any accidents or injuries. Another 3348 F-150s subject to recall are in Canada and 17 are in Mexico. Of the entire 12,328 total, 6722 are on dealer lots. Dealers will replace the upper shaft at a later date.

This is the second recall for the 2015 F-150. Last month, Ford recalled 73 F-150s that were missing engine heat shields or some of the fasteners attaching them under the body.
