Delhi election 2015: Minority vote slips Congress - Times of India

Elders and youth alike, Muslims appear to have sided with AAP this time, with many traditional Congress supporters expressing disenchantment with the party.

Five-time winner from Matia Mahal Shoaib Iqbal, who fought this time on a Congress ticket, has a tough battle on his hands. "It's jhadu (broom) for all of us as most of us want change. I stay in this area which has become one of the worst ghettos and travel to Gurgaon for work. Delhi and NCR have developed so much," says Mohammed Riaz, a call centre employee.

Okhla probably best describes this shift. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, it was divided between AAP and Congress but this time, it might be a one-sided fight.

"The older generation is still leaning towards Congress but we feel the party has only used the minorities as a vote bank. We are supporting AAP," said Abida Khatoon, a resident.
