The city police have booked three cases against the organisers of Virat Hindu Samajotsava (VHS) for violation of commissioner of police MN Reddi's order during the event at National College ground in Basavangudi on Sunday.

Praveen Togadia has also been made an accused in one of the three cases registered under Sections 353, 143 and 188 of IPC at Shankarapuram police station.

The main case pertains to violation of the clear cut order of the city police that the organisers won't broadcast any speech of Togadia through youtube, video conferencing or any other form of media at the meet.

Earlier, Togadia had been banned from entering the city to prevent him from giving a speech at the event in person. The decision was upheld by the High Court. Despite the stricture, the organisers had played a video CD of a speech by Togadia at the event.

The additional commissioner of police (law and order) Alok Kumar said that Togadia is one of the accused, though not the main one, in this case.

The speech was played a few minutes before the end of the programme and when police tried to stop it, they were prevented from climbing the dias. A case was registered in this regard for stopping and interfering in the discharge of legal duties by the police. The third case pertains to violation in the timing of the event.

However organisers of the event said that making Togadia an accused in the case won't hold much water.

If Togadia claims that he has nothing to do with his speech being played at the event as it was an old recorded speech, the court may take his plea into consideration and acquit him of the charges, they said.
