The preliminary list of 30 Indian probables for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand was finalised by the national selectors, with 2011 stars Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbajan Singh and Zaheer Khan getting the axe.
The meeting of the five-member selection panel was headed by Sandeep Patil and the emphasis on the 2015 World Cup squad was on youth.
Yuvraj, who won the Player of the Tournament award in the 2011 edition, has been woeful with the bat in the past few months, while Sehwag, Gambhir, Harbajan and Zaheer have also not been in form for quite a while now.
Defending champions India open their account against arch-rivals Pakistan in the fourth ODI of the tournament.
The ICC's showpiece event will be held from February 14-March 29, with the final to be held in Melbourne.
There will be 49 matches played over the course of the World Cup, with 14 teams scheduled to participate.
Apart from the 10 Test-playing nations, Ireland and Afghanistan have managed to get through, which leaves two spots open for teams such as Netherlands, Kenya, Canada, and Scotland, among others.
