New Delhi: Days after more than a dozen of Indians were taken hostage in Iraq, the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday said that they have received some information about the abducted Indians and are working on it to get them released soon.

“We have some lead about them, we are working on it,” Syed Akbaruddin, the Official Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs said on the abducted Indian nationals.

Addressing a press conference, Akbaruddin added that the abducted Indian nationals are unharmed and are still in captivity of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants who took over Mosul and Tikrit in Iraq last week.

“Abducted Indian nationals remain in captivity and unharmed,” MEA said.

While asserting that India will assist in every aspect to free the abducted Indian, Akbaruddin said, “All our national assets will be in readiness, should they be required to assist Indian nationals.”

Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry further said, “The Our team already on its way to Basra to assist Indian nationals.”

“These officials will assist all Indian nationals all across Iraq, Air tickets will also be provided to those who can't afford,” he added.

Further giving a breather to the families of the Indian contractual workers who are in Iraq, Akbaruddin said, “Will have adequate officials to provide assistance of not only meeting Indian Nationals but also resolving issues of contractual nature.”

The Indians, mostly from Punjab and Haryana states, were working as construction workers or as sanitary workers in the Iraqi city of Mosul. As many as 39 workers were kidnapped around a week ago by the suspected ISIS militants who have reportedly taken control of Mosul and Tikrit.
