Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday visited the site near Chennai where an under-construction building collapsed due to rain on Saturday evening.
Inspecting the rescue operations, she accused the builders of violating all norms. She had yesterday promised action against the builders.
The CM said that the death toll has mounted to 11. And, while 31 people have been rescued so far from the debris, as many as 72 people are still trapped in it.
Rescue operations are underway with 10 teams of the NDRF and 180 experts working at the spot.
11 people lost their lives when an 11-storeyed building collapsed due to rains. Five of the people injured are said to be in a critical situation. Majority of the affected people are labourers working on the site.

"10 NDRF teams are working together with other departments of state government. More than 300 personnel working. Our Main challenge is removing debris. The work could take at least 2 or 3 days. We are hopeful that there will be other survivors, " DIG NDRF SP Selvan said.
The building was being constructed by a Madurai-based builder. The police have detained 4 people for negligence in the case.
