Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told newly elected BJP MPs that they need to have to have good 'aachaar, vichaar and vyavahaar' (conduct, thoughts and behaviour) in their new roles.
Modi was speaking to MPs during the inauguration of a two day orientation programme starting on Saturday to train newly-elected BJP MPs in efficient parliamentary and public conduct. They will also also be trained on how to use social media and deal with controversies.
In an address that lasted for almost 30 minutes, Modi had stressed on the importance of maintaing the good image of the government and had cautioned MPs to keep their distance from the media and not speak to media channels out of turn.
CNN-IBN quoted sources at the conference as saying that the Prime Minister told his MPs that he was also a first-time MP and was therefore also undergoing training in the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister also told his MPs that they needed to concentrate on doing their best for their constituencies and ministries, instead of engaging in blame games to avoid doing what was needed. He encouraged them to prepare a roadmap for the next six months and focus on defeating the Congress party in upcoming legislative assembly elections.
Around 180 newly-elected BJP MPs, including 162 from the Lok Sabha and 18 from Rajya Sabha are attending the training workshop which will give them tips on improving their performance as an MP as well as on their conduct.
In addition to the inaugural address by Narendra Modi, BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley will conduct different sessions with the MPs. The workshop comes ahead of the Budget session which will start on July 7.
They will also be told how to spend their MPLAD fund in the best public interest. Party leaders say the workshop will train them on how to ask good questions in Parliament and what kind of urgent public matters to raise during Zero Hour debates in both the Houses.
The new MPs will also be asked to remain in touch with public through social media. Party patriarch LK Advani is likely to deliver the valedictory address on Sunday.
