The gruesome incident sparked widespread condemnation of the way it was handled by the authorities. Many activists including former IPS officer Kiran Bedi slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for its inability to maintain law order.
Former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati too referred to the state as a 'jungle raj' and demanded President's rule in the state.
